Author Bio:
Irish Winters is an award-winning author who dabbles in poetry, grandchildren, and rarely (as in extremely rarely) the kitchen. More prone to be outdoors than in, she grew up the quintessential tomboy on a farm in rural Wisconsin, spent her teenage years in the Pacific Northwest, but calls the Wasatch Mountains of Northern Utah home. For now.
The wife of one handsome husband and the mother of three perfect sons, Irish divides her time between writing at home and travelling the country with her man while – writing. (Seriously, what else?)
She believes in making every day count for something and follows the wise admonition of her mother to, “Look out the window and see something!”

Snippet One:
Zack took another deep breath. He hadn’t expected to still be here, so all the talk about the little girl and the van had to be a good sign. He rolled the knot out of one shoulder. Maybe he wasn’t going to get fired after all.

Alex turned to him. Icy blue had changed to gunmetal gray. Sharp. Cold. Deadly. “Size it up for me, Lennox.”

Zack swallowed hard. Size it up for me? What does he mean? What’s he really asking?

“Ah,” he stalled, his mind racing over all possible answers. David had just summed up the whole debacle. What did Alex want, the damned mess tied up with a blood red bow?

Snippet two:
While he walked through her neglected home, she set her teakettle to boil and placed two mugs, two spoons, and what was left of the sugar and creamer on the table. He might as well know he was not going to get his usual cup of caffe-mocha-latte-whatever he was used to drinking every morning. All she had to offer was plain old Folgers freeze-dried. If it was good enough for her, it was good enough for him. He could take it or leave it.

The simple sight of the sugar bowl in the middle of her table brought LiLi’s pouting face to mind. Like all kids, she loved sweets. Mei had to watch her or she’d spoon sugar on her waffles. Over the syrup. Maybe with chocolate chips. Mei’s resolve buckled. God, I can’t do this alone anymore!

“Copy that.” Agent Lennox ’s voice rose strong and confident from her bedroom where he was checking for listening devices. She stared when he entered the kitchen, dumbfounded at the odd coincidence.

“I’m sorry,” she murmured. “Did you say something to me?” Did you hear me? Are you the answer to my prayers?

“Sorry. Didn’t mean to be loud. Just chatting with the boss.” The darkest chocolate eyes smiled back at her, warm and melted. Inviting. Comforting.

“I only have instant coffee,” she said to break the connection. What was she thinking? He didn’t care. Not really.

Snippet three:
Dark eyes sought his. Regret flickered. Anger, too. He prepared for a slap. It didn’t come. Instead, she burrowed under his chin, breathing hard, and he let her. This fierce, mean woman was in his arms, trembling, her heart pounding against him like it belonged to a scared little girl. Her slender body hugged into him. His fingers traced the sharp edges of her spine and shoulder blades. Alex was right. Mei was starving, and not just for food.

“I like this,” he whispered, his own heart pounding a noisy beat. She wasn’t the only one who was scared. He’d overstepped the invisible line between agent and client, and he’d done it with the Wicked Witch of the West.

She didn’t speak, and he was glad. There were no words for the tender moment. Like a happily married couple, they stood there in each other’s arms. He absorbed the feeling that had sprung up between them, stroking her cheek when he pushed a stray wisp of hair behind her ear. She had delicate ears, a soft curl of skin that looked more like fine bone china beneath his rugged fingertip.

When she lifted her face, Mei searched his with wondering eyes, and he couldn’t look away. Heck. He could barely breathe–until she took a step back.

“There. Was that good enough, Agent Lennox? Do you think we fooled them?” She nodded sideways in the direction of the Lincoln.

She couldn’t have hit harder if she’d punched him square in the solar plexus. He actually felt dizzy. He’d kissed–-Hagatha.

“Let’s get it over with. I have work to do.” With one hand still in the center of his chest, she pushed away.
